The Distant Ship Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEF DGHG FIFJKLML NONO PMPM

The sea bird's wing o'er ocean's breastA
Shoots like a glancing starB
While the red radiance of the westA
Spreads kindling fast and farB
And yet that splendour wins thee notC
Thy still and thoughtful eyeD
Dwells but on one dark distant spotC
Of all the main and skyD
-
Look round thee o'er the slumbering deepE
A solemn glory broodsF
A fire hath touch'd the beacon steepE
And all the golden woodsF
-
A thousand gorgeous clouds on highD
Burn with the amber lightG
What spell from that rich pageantryH
Chains down thy gazing sightG
-
A softening thought of human caresF
A feeling link'd to earthI
Is not yon speck a bark which bearsF
The lov'd of many a hearthJ
Oh do not Hope and Grief and FearK
Crowd her frail world even nowL
And manhood's prayer and woman's tearM
Follow her venturous prowL
-
Bright are the floating clouds aboveN
The glittering seas belowO
But we are bound by cords of loveN
To kindred weal and woO
-
Therefore amidst this wide arrayP
Of glorious things and fairM
My soul is on that bark's lone wayP
For human hearts are thereM
