Alone on earth but yet his mien | D |
Is bright with majesty serene | D |

And those high hopes whose guiding star | E |
Shines from eternal words afar | E |
Have with that light illumed his eye | F |
Whose fount is immortality | G |

And o'er his features pour'd a ray | H |
Of glory not to pass away | H |
He seems a being who hath known | I |
Communion with his God alone | I |

On earth by nought but pity's tie | F |
Detain'd a moment from on high | F |
One to sublimer worlds allied | J |
One from all passions purified | J |

E'en now half mingled with the sky | F |
And all prepared oh not to die | F |
But like the prophet to aspire | K |
To Heaven's triumphal car of fire | L |
