LOVELY nymph with eye sereneA
Dimpled smile and frolic mienA
Come with airy step advancingB
Come with blooming Hebe dancingB
O'er the meads I see thee strayingB
Youth and sport around thee playingB
Gay content thy sister fairC
Twines a garland round thy hairC
Thine the lip of roseate dyeD
Thine the pleasure sparkling eyeD
Thine the cheek that softly glowsE
Brighter than the blushing roseE
-
Guide me to thy fav'rite bow'rsE
To deck thy rural shrine with flow'rsE
In thy lowly sylvan cellF
Peace and virtue love to dwellF
Ever let me own thy swayG
Still to thee my tribute payG
-
When Zephyr waves his balmy wingB
To kiss the sweets of MayG
When the soft melodies of springB
Resound from ev'ry sprayG
With thee sweet maid I'll rove alongH
And tread the morning dewsE
To hear the wood lark's early songH
To court the laughing museE
-
With thee I'll rove when summer poursE
Her treasures o'er the landI
When fair Pomona sheds her storesE
With kind luxuriant handI
-
When Autumn bearing golden sheavesE
Delights the happy swainJ
And softly paints the fading leavesE
And crowns the fertile plainJ
-
And e'en in winter's hoary reignJ
I'll wake my festive laysE
Thy look shall prompt th' enliv'ning strainJ
And 'brighten at the blaze '-
-
I court thee in the vernal hoursE
Of life's enchanting mornK
Thy hand shall strew my path with flow'rsE
And steal away the thornK
-
But when the dawn of youth is fledL
The spring of life so fairC
Ah wilt thou then benignly shedL
Thy placid beams around my headL
And steal my thoughts from careC
-
Yes gentle pow'r thy heav'nly rayG
Shall cheer my morning brightM
And e'en in life's declining dayG
Shall gild the dark and thorny wayG
With mild celestial lightM
