For My Sister's GrottoA
-
FAYS and Fairies haste awayB
This is Harriet's holidayB
Bring the lyre and bring the luteC
Bring the sweetly breathing fluteC
Wreaths of cowslips hither bringD
All the honours of the springD
Adorn the grot with all that's gayB
Fays and Fairies haste awayB
Bring the vine to Bacchus dearE
Bring the purple lilac hereF
Festoons of roses sweetest flowerG
The yellow primrose of the bowerG
Blue ey'd violets wet with dewH
Bring the clustering woodbine tooH
Bring in baskets made of rushI
The cherry with its ripen'd blushI
The downy peach so soft so fairJ
The luscious grape the mellow pearJ
These to Harriet hither bringD
And sweetly in return she'll singD
Be the brilliant grotto sceneK
The palace of the Fairy QueenK
Form the sprightly circling danceL
Fairies here your steps advanceL
To the harp's soft dulcet soundM
Let your footsteps lightly boundM
Unveil your forms to mortal eyeN
Let Harriet view your revelryO
