He Never Smiled Again Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDF GHCHIEIF JKJKLELF MNMNOEPF

The bark that held a prince went downA
The sweeping waves roll'd onB
And what was England's glorious crownA
To him that wept a sonC
He lived for life may long be borneD
Ere sorrow break its chainE
Why comes not death to those who mournD
He never smiled againF
-
There stood proud forms around his throneG
The stately and the braveH
But which could fill the place of oneC
That one beneath the waveH
Before him pass'd the young and fairI
In pleasure's reckless trainE
But seas dash'd o'er his son's bright hairI
He never smiled againF
-
He sat where festal bowls went roundJ
He heard the minstrel singK
He saw the Tourney's victor crown'dJ
Amidst the knightly ringK
A murmur of the restless deepL
Was blent with every strainE
A voice of winds that would not sleepL
He never smiled againF
-
Hearts in that time clos'd o'er the traceM
Of vows once fondly pour'dN
And strangers took the kinsman's placeM
At many a joyous boardN
Graves which true love had bath'd with tearsO
Were left to Heaven's bright rainE
Fresh hopes were born for other yearsP
He never smiled againF
