Casabianca Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFG HIHI JKJL MNMN OHOH PQPQ RSRS NTNT

The boy stood on the burning deckA
Whence all but he had fledB
The flame that lit the battle's wreckA
Shone round him o'er the deadB
Yet beautiful and bright he stoodC
As born to rule the stormD
A creature of heroic bloodE
A proud though childlike formD
-
The flames roll'd on he would not goF
Without his father's wordG
That father faint in death belowF
His voice no longer heardG
-
He call'd aloud Say father sayH
If yet my task is doneI
He knew not that the chieftain layH
Unconscious of his sonI
-
Speak father once again he criedJ
If I may yet be goneK
And but the booming shots repliedJ
And fast the flames roll'd onL
-
Upon his brow he felt their breathM
And in his waving hairN
And looked from that lone post of deathM
In still yet brave despairN
-
And shouted but one more aloudO
My father must I stayH
While o'er him fast through sail and shroudO
The wreathing fires made wayH
-
They wrapt the ship in splendour wildP
They caught the flag on highQ
And stream'd above the gallant childP
Like banners in the skyQ
-
There came a burst of thunder soundR
The boy oh where was heS
Ask of the winds that far aroundR
With fragments strewed the seaS
-
With mast and helm and pennon fairN
That well had borne their partT
But the noblest thing which perished thereN
Was that young faithful heartT
