Ancient Greek Song Of Exile Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABC DEFEC GHGHC HHHHC HHHHC

WHERE is the summer with her golden sunA
That festal glory hath not pass'd from earthB
For me alone the laughing day is doneA
Where is the summer with her voice of mirthB
Far in my own bright landC
-
Where are the Fauns whose flute notes breathe and dieD
On the green hills the founts from sparry cavesE
Through the wild places bearing melodyF
The reeds low whispering o'er the river wavesE
Far in my own bright landC
-
Where are the temples through the dim wood shiningG
The virgin dances and the choral strainsH
Where the sweet sisters of my youth entwiningG
The Spring's first roses for their sylvan fanesH
Far in my own bright landC
-
Where are the vineyards with their joyous throngsH
The red grapes pressing when the foliage fadesH
The lyres the wreaths the lovely Dorian songsH
And the pine forests and the olive shadesH
Far in my own bright landC
-
Where the deep haunted grots the laurel bowersH
The Dryad's footsteps and the minstrel's dreamsH
Oh that my life were as a southern flower'sH
I might not languish then by these chill streamsH
Far from my own bright landC
