Villonaud For This Yule Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABABAB ABABABAB ABABA CAB ABAB

Towards the Noel that morte saisonA
Christ make the shepherds' homage dearB
Then when the grey wolves everychoneA
Drink of the winds their chill small beerB
And lap o' the snows food's gueredonA
Then makyth my heart his yule tide cheerB
Skoal with the dregs if the clear be goneA
Wineing the ghosts of yester yearB
-
Ask ye what ghost I dream uponA
What of the magians' scented gearB
The ghosts of dead loves everyoneA
That make the stark winds reek with fearB
Lest love return with the foison sunA
And slay the memories that me cheerB
Such as I drink to mine fashionA
Wineing the ghosts of yester yearB
-
Where are the joys my heart had wonA
Saturn and Mars to Zeus drawn nearB
Where are athe lips mine lay uponA
Aye where are the glances feat and clearB
That bade my heart his valor donA
-
I skoal to the eyes as grey blown meerC
Who knows whose was that paragonA
Wineing the ghosts of yester yearB
-
Prince ask me not what I have doneA
Nor what God hath that can me cheerB
But ye ask first where the winds are goneA
Wineing the ghosts of yester yearB
