I had over prepared the eventA
that much was ominousB
With middle ageing careC
I had laid out just the right booksD
I had almost turned down the pagesE
-
Beauty is so rare a thingF
So few drink of my fountainG
-
So much barren regretH
So many hours wastedI
And now I watch from the windowJ
the rain the wandering bussesE
-
Their little cosmos is shakenG
the air is alive with that factK
In their parts of the cityL
they are played on by diverse forcesM
How do I knowJ
Oh I know well enoughN
For them there is something afootO
As for meL
I had over prepared the eventA
-
Beauty is so rare a thingF
So few drink of my fountainG
-
Two friends a breath of the forestP
Friends Are people less friendsQ
because one has just at last found themR
Twice they promised to comeS
-
Between the night and the morningF
Beauty would drink of my mindT
Youth would awhile forgetH
my youth is gone from meL
-
Speak up You have danced so stifflyL
Someone admired your worksU
And said so franklyL
-
Did you talk like a foolV
The first nightW
The second eveningF
-
But they promised againX
'To morrow at tea time'L
-
Now the third day is hereY
no word from eitherZ
No word from her nor himL
Only another man's noteA2
Dear Pound I am leaving EnglandB2
