I am thy soul Nikoptis I have watchedA
These five millennia and thy dead eyesB
Moved not nor ever answer my desireC
And thy light limbs wherethrough I leapt aflameD
Burn not with me nor any saffron thingE
-
See the light grass sprang up to pillow theeF
And kissed thee with a myriad grassy tonguesG
But not thou meF
I have read out the gold upon the wallH
And wearied out my thought upon the signsI
And there is no new thing in all this placeJ
-
I have been kind See I have left the jars sealedK
Lest thou shouldst wake and whimper for thy wineL
And all thy robes I have kept smooth on theeF
-
O thou unmindful How should I forgetM
Even the river many days agoN
The river thou wast over youngO
And three souls came upon TheeF
And I cameD
And I flowed in upon thee beat them offP
have been intimate with thee known thy waysQ
Have I not touched thy palms and finger tipsR
Flowed in and through thee and about thy heelsS
How 'came I in' Was I not thee and TheeF
-
And no sun comes to rest me in this placeJ
And I am torn against the jagged darkT
And no light beats upon me and you sayU
No word day after dayU
-
Oh I could get me out despite the marksV
And all their crafty work upon the doorW
Out through the glass green fieldsX
-
Yet it is quiet hereY
I do not goN
