The Logical Conclusion Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE AGHGIJKJ LMMMMNON J

When earth's last thesis is copiedA
From the theses that went beforeB
When idea from fact has departedC
And bare boned factlets shall boreB
When all joy shall have fled from studyD
And scholarship reign supremeE
When truth shall 'baaa' on the hill crestsF
And no one shall dare to dreamE
-
When all the good poems have been buriedA
With comment annoted in fullG
And art shall bow down in homageH
To scholarship's zinc plated bullG
When there shall be nothing to researchI
But the notes of annoted notesJ
And Baalam's ass shall inquireK
The price of imported oatsJ
-
Then no one shall tell him the answerL
For each shall know the one factM
That lies in the special ass ignmentM
From which he is making his tractM
So the ass shall sigh uninstructedM
While each in his separate bookN
Shall grind for the love of grindingO
And only the devil shall lookN
-
-
Against the 'germanic' system of graduate study and insane specialization in the InanitiesJ
