Here we are picking the first fern shootsB
And saying When shall we get back to our countryC
Here we are because we have the Ken nin for our foemenD
We have no comfort because of these MongolsE
We grub the soft fern shootsB
When anyone says Return the others are full of sorrowF
Sorrowful minds sorrow is strong we are hungry and thirstyC
Our defence is not yet made sure no one can let his friend returnD
We grub the old fern stalksG
We say Will we be let to go back in OctoberH
There is no ease in royal affairs we have no comfortI
Our sorrow is bitter but we would not return to our countryC
What flower has come into blossomJ
Whose chariot The General'sE
Horses his horses even are tired They were strongK
We have no rest trhee battles a monthL
By heavn his horses are tiredM
The generals are on them the soldiers are by themN
The horses are well trained the generals have ivory arrows andO
quivers ornamented with fish skinD
The enemy is swift we must be carefulP
When we set out the willows were drooping with springQ
We come back in the snowF
We go slowly we are hungry and thirstyC
Our mind is full of sorrow who will know of our griefR
