When George Was King Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCB DBDBEEB FGFGHHI JBJBKKB ABABLLB

Cards and swords and a lady's loveA
That is a tale worth readingB
An insult veiled a downcast gloveA
And rapiers leap unheedingB
And 'tis O for the brawlC
The thrust the fallC
And the foe at your feet a bleedingB
-
Tales of revel at wayside innsD
The goblets gaily fillingB
Braggarts boasting a thousand sinsD
Though none can boast a shillingB
And 'tis O for the wineE
The frothing steinE
And the clamour of cups a spillingB
-
Tales of maidens in rich brocadeF
Powder and puff and patchesG
Gallants lilting a serenadeF
Of old time trolls and catchesG
And 'tis O for the lipsH
And the finger tipsH
And the kiss that the boldest snatchesI
-
Tales of buckle and big rosetteJ
The slender shoe adorningB
Of curtseying through the minuetJ
With laughter love or scorningB
And 'tis O for the shoutK
Of the roustaboutK
As he hies him home in the morningB
-
Cards and swords and a lady's loveA
Give to the tale God speedingB
War and wassail and perfumed gloveA
And all that's rare in readingB
And 'tis O for the waysL
Of the olden daysL
And a life that was worth the leadingB
