Wave-won Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFFE GGHIIH JJKLLK MMNOON PPCQQC CCRSSSTo night I hunger so | A |
Beloved one to know | A |
If you recall and crave again the dream | B |
That haunted our canoe | C |
And wove its witchcraft through | C |
Our hearts as 'neath the northern night we sailed the northern stream | B |
- | |
Ah dear if only we | D |
As yesternight could be | D |
Afloat within that light and lonely shell | E |
To drift in silence till | F |
Heart hushed and lulled and still | F |
The moonlight through the melting air flung forth its fatal spell | E |
- | |
The dusky summer night | G |
The path of gold and white | G |
The moon had cast across the river's breast | H |
The shores in shadows clad | I |
The far away half sad | I |
Sweet singing of the whip poor will all soothed our souls to rest | H |
- | |
You trusted I could feel | J |
My arm as strong as steel | J |
So still your upturned face so calm your breath | K |
While circling eddies curled | L |
While laughing rapids whirled | L |
From boulder unto boulder till they dashed themselves to death | K |
- | |
Your splendid eyes aflame | M |
Put heaven's stars to shame | M |
Your god like head so near my lap was laid | N |
My hand is burning where | O |
It touched your wind blown hair | O |
As sweeping to the rapids verge I changed my paddle blade | N |
- | |
The boat obeyed my hand | P |
Till wearied with its grand | P |
Wild anger all the river lay aswoon | C |
And as my paddle dipped | Q |
Thro' pools of pearl it slipped | Q |
And swept beneath a shore of shade beneath a velvet moon | C |
- | |
To night again dream you | C |
Our spirit winged canoe | C |
Is listening to the rapids purling past | R |
Where in delirium reeled | S |
Our maddened hearts that kneeled | S |
To idolize the perfect world to taste of love at last | S |
