West wind blow from your prairie nestA
Blow from the mountains blow from the westA
The sail is idle the sailor tooB
O wind of the west we wait for youB
Blow blowC
I have wooed you soC
But never a favour you bestowC
You rock your cradle the hills betweenD
But scorn to notice my white lateenD
I stow the sail unship the mastE
I wooed you long but my wooing's pastE
My paddle will lull you into restA
O drowsy wind of the drowsy westA
Sleep sleepF
By your mountain steepF
Or down where the prairie grasses sweepF
Now fold in slumber your laggard wingsG
For soft is the song my paddle singsG
August is laughing across the skyH
Laughing while paddle canoe and IH
Drift driftI
Where the hills upliftI
On either side of the current swiftI
The river rolls in its rocky bedJ
My paddle is plying its way aheadJ
Dip dipK
While the water flipK
In foam as over their breast we slipK
And oh the river runs swifter nowD
The eddies circle about my bowD
Swirl swirlL
How the ripples curlL
In many a dangerous pool awhirlL
And forward far the rapids roarM
Fretting their margin for evermoreM
Dash dashN
With a mighty crashN
They seethe and boil and bound and splashN
Be strong O paddle be brave canoeD
The reckless waves you must plunge intoD
Reel reelL
On your trembling keelL
But never a fear my craft will feelL
We've raced the rapid we're far aheadJ
The river slips through its silent bedJ
Sway swayO
As the bubbles sprayO
And fall in tinkling tunes awayO
And up on the hills against the skyH
A fir tree rocking its lullabyH
Swings swingsG
Its emerald wingsG
Swelling the song that my paddle singsG
