There's a brave little berry brown manA
At the opposite side of the earthB
Of the White and the Black and the TanA
He's the smallest in compass and girthB
O he's little and lively and TanA
And he's showing the world what he's worthB
For his nation is born and its birthB
Is for hardihood courage and sandC
So you take off your capD
To the brave little JapD
Who fights for Chrysanthemum LandC
-
Near the house that the little man keepsE
There's a Bug a boo building its lairF
It prowls and it growls and it sleepsE
At the foot of his tiny back stairF
But the little brown man never sleepsE
For the Brownie will battle the BearF
He has soldiers and ships to commandC
So take off you capD
To the brave little JapD
Who fights for Chrysanthemum LandC
-
Uncle Sam stands a watching near byG
With his finger aside of his noseH
John Bull with a wink in his eyeG
Looks round to see how the wind blowsH
O jolly old John with his eyeG
Ever set on the East and its woesH
More than hoeing their own little rowsH
These wary old wags understandC
But they take off their capsI
To the brave little JapsI
Who fight for Chrysanthemum LandC
-
Now he's given us Geishas and themesJ
For operas stories and playsK
His silks and his chinas are dreamsJ
And we copy his quaint little waysK
O we look on his land in our dreamsJ
But his value we failed to appraiseK
For he'll gather his laurels and baysK
His Cruisers and Columns are mannedC
And we take off our capsI
To the brave little JapsI
Who fight for Chrysanthemum LandC
