The Idlers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

The sun's red pulses beatA
Full prodigal of heatA
Full lavish of its lustre unrepressedA
But we have drifted farB
From where his kisses areB
And in this landward lying shade we let our paddles restA
-
The river deep and stillC
The maple mantled hillC
The little yellow beach whereon we lieD
The puffs of heated breezeE
All sweetly whisper TheseE
Are days that only come in a Canadian JulyD
-
So silently we twoF
Lounge in our still canoeF
Nor fate nor fortune matters to us nowG
So long as we aloneH
May call this dream our ownH
The breeze may die the sail may droop we care not when or howG
-
Against the thwart near byD
Inactively you lieD
And all too near my arm your temple bendsI
Your indolently crudeA
Abandoned attitudeA
Is one of ease and art in which a perfect languor blendsI
-
Your costume loose and lightA
Leaves unconcealed your mightA
Of muscle half suspected half definedA
And falling well asideA
Your vesture opens wideA
Above your splendid sunburnt throat that pulses unconfinedA
-
With easy unreserveJ
Across the gunwale's curveJ
Your arm superb is lying brown and bareK
Your hand just touches mineL
With import firm and fineL
I kiss the very wind that blows about your tumbled hairK
-
Ah Dear I am unwiseM
In echoing your eyesM
Whene'er they leave their far off gaze and turnN
To melt and blur my sightA
For every other lightA
Is servile to your cloud grey eyes wherein cloud shadows burnN
-
But once the silence breaksO
But once your ardour wakesO
To words that humanize this lotus landA
So perfect and completeA
Those burning words and sweetA
So perfect is the single kiss your lips lay on my handA
-
The paddles lie disusedA
The fitful breeze abusedA
Has dropped to slumber with no after blowP
And hearts will pay the costA
For you and I have lostA
More than the homeward blowing wind that died an hour agoP
