The City And The Sea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCDCDC A EFEFDCDC

IA
-
To none the city bends a servile kneeB
Purse proud and scornful on her heights she standsC
And at her feet the great white moaning seaB
Shoulders incessantly the grey gold sandsC
One the Almighty's child since time beganD
And one the might of Mammon born of clodsC
For all the city is the work of manD
But all the sea is God'sC
-
IIA
-
And she between the ocean and the townE
Lies cursed of one and by the other blestF
Her staring eyes her long drenched hair her gownE
Sea laved and soiled and dank above her breastF
She image of her God since life beganD
She but the child of Mammon born of clodsC
Her broken body spoiled and spurned of manD
But her sweet soul is God'sC
