The Cattle Country Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH GIGI JKJK

Up the dusk enfolded prairieA
Foot falls soft and slyB
Velvet cushioned wild and waryA
Then the coyote's cryB
-
Rush of hoofs and roar and rattleC
Beasts of blood and breedD
Twenty thousand frightened cattleC
Then the wild stampedeD
-
Pliant lasso circling widerE
In the frenzied flightF
Loping horse and cursing riderE
Plunging through the nightF
-
Rim of dawn the darkness losingG
Trail of blackened soilH
Perfume of the sage brush oozingG
On the air like oilH
-
Foothills to the Rockies liftingG
Brown and blue and greenI
Warm Alberta sunlight driftingG
Over leagues betweenI
-
That's the country of the rangesJ
Plain and prairie landK
And the God who never changesJ
Holds it in His handK
