Silhouette Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC EFFE GHHG ICCI

The sky line melts from russet into blueA
Unbroken the horizon saving whereB
A wreath of smoke curls up the far thin airB
And points the distant lodges of the SiouxA
-
Etched where the lands and cloudlands touch and dieC
A solitary Indian tepee standsD
The only habitation of these landsD
That roll their magnitude from sky to skyC
-
The tent poles lift and loom in thin reliefE
The upward floating smoke ascends betweenF
And near the open doorway gaunt and leanF
And shadow like there stands an Indian ChiefE
-
With eyes that lost their lustre long agoG
With visage fixed and stern as fate's decreeH
He looks towards the empty west to seeH
The never coming herd of buffaloG
-
Only the bones that bleach upon the plainsI
Only the fleshless skeletons that lieC
In ghastly nakedness and silence cryC
Out mutely that naught else to him remainsI
