- | |
A stream of tender gladness | B |
Of filmy sun and opal tinted skies | B |
Of warm midsummer air that lightly lies | B |
In mystic rings | B |
Where softly swings | B |
The music of a thousand wings | B |
That almost tones to sadness | B |
- | |
Midway 'twixt earth and heaven | C |
A bubble in the pearly air I seem | D |
To float upon the sapphire floor a dream | D |
Of clouds of snow | E |
Above below | E |
Drift with my drifting dim and slow | E |
As twilight drifts to even | F |
- | |
The little fern leaf bending | A |
Upon the brink its green reflection greets | B |
And kisses soft the shadow that it meets | B |
With touch so fine | G |
The border line | G |
The keenest vision can't define | G |
So perfect is the blending | A |
- | |
The far fir trees that cover | H |
The brownish hills with needles green and gold | I |
The arching elms o'erhead vinegrown and old | I |
Repictured are | J |
Beneath me far | J |
Where not a ripple moves to mar | J |
Shades underneath or over | H |
- | |
Mine is the undertone | K |
The beauty strength and power of the land | L |
Will never stir or bend at my command | L |
But all the shade | M |
Is marred or made | M |
If I but dip my paddle blade | M |
And it is mine alone | K |
- | |
O pathless world of seeming | A |
O pathless life of mine whose deep ideal | N |
Is more my own than ever was the real | N |
For others Fame | O |
And Love's red flame | O |
And yellow gold I only claim | O |
The shadows and the dreaming | A |
