Penseroso Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IIJK

Soulless is all humanity to meA
To night My keenest longing is to beA
Alone alone with God's grey earth that seemsB
Pulse of my pulse and consort of my dreamsB
-
To night my soul desires no fellowshipC
Or fellow being crave I but to slipC
Thro' space on space till flesh no more can bindD
And I may quit for aye my fellow kindD
-
Let me but feel athwart my cheek the lashE
Of whipping wind but hear the torrent dashE
Adown the mountain steep 'twere more my choiceF
Than touch of human hand than human voiceF
-
Let me but wander on the shore night stilledG
Drinking its darkness till my soul is filledG
The breathing of the salt sea on my hairH
My outstretched hands but grasping empty airH
-
Let me but feel the pulse of Nature's soulI
Athrob on mine let seas and thunders rollI
O'er night and me sands whirl winds waters beatJ
For God's grey earth has no cheap counterfeitK
