Where the current runs to seaward	A
Soft and slow	B
Where the sleeping river grasses	C
Brush my paddle as it passes	C
To and fro	B

All the golden sands awaking	D
In the cove	E
And the quaint sand piper winging	D
O'er the shallows ceases singing	D
When I move	F

On the water's idle pillow	B
Sleeps the overhanging willow	B
Green and cool	G
Where the rushes lift their burnished	H
Oval heads from out the tarnished	H
Emerald pool	G

Where the very silence slumbers	C
Water lilies grow in numbers	C
Pure and pale	I
All the morning they have rested	J
Amber crowned and pearly crested	J
Fair and frail	I

Here impossible romances	C
Indefinable sweet fancies	C
Cluster round	K
But they do not mar the sweetness	C
Of this still September fleetness	C
With a sound	K

I can scarce discern the meeting	D
Of the shore and stream retreating	D
So remote	L
For the laggard river dozing	D
Only wakes from its reposing	D
Where I float	L

Where the river mists are rising	D
All the foliage baptizing	D
With their spray	M
There the sun gleams far and faintly	N
With a shadow soft and saintly	N
In its ray	M

And the perfume of some burning	D
Far off brushwood ever turning	D
To exhale	I
All its smoky fragrance dying	D
In the arms of evening lying	D
Where I sail	I

My canoe is growing lazy	N
In the atmosphere so hazy	N

Half in slumber I am guiding	D
Eastward indistinctly gliding	D
