Where the current runs to seaward	A
Soft and slow	B
Where the sleeping river grasses	C
Brush my paddle as it passes	C
To and fro	B

In the cove	E
And the quaint sand piper winging	D
O'er the shallows ceases singing	D
When I move	F

Sleeps the overhanging willow	B

Where the rushes lift their burnished	H
Oval heads from out the tarnished	H
Emerald pool	G

Water lilies grow in numbers	C
Pure and pale	I
All the morning they have rested	J
Amber crowned and pearly crested	J
Fair and frail	I

Here impossible romances	C
Indefinable sweet fancies	C
Cluster round	K
But they do not mar the sweetness	C
Of this still September fleetness	C
With a sound	K

Of the shore and stream retreating	D

For the laggard river dozing	D
Only wakes from its reposing	D
Where I float	L

With a shadow soft and saintly	N

Far off brushwood ever turning	D
To exhale	I

In the arms of evening lying	D
