| Scorching relentlessly the cool north lands | B |
| A sweet wild flower lifts its purple head | A |
| And like some gentle spirit sorrow fed | A |
| It hides the scars with almost human hands | B |

| Of desolating fire of human pain | D |
| There comes some purifying sweet belief | C |
| Some fellow feeling beautiful if brief | C |
| And life revives and blossoms once again | E |
