Christmastide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBC DEED FGGF HIIH AJJA

I may not go to night to BethlehemA
Nor follow star directed ways nor treadB
The paths wherein the shepherds walked that ledB
To Christ and peace and God's good will to menC
-
I may not hear the Herald Angel's songD
Peal through the Oriental skies nor seeE
The wonder of that Heavenly companyE
Announce the King the world had waited longD
-
The manger throne I may not kneel beforeF
Or see how man to God is reconciledG
Through pure St Mary's purer holier childG
The human Christ these eyes may not adoreF
-
I may not carry frankincense and myrrhH
With adoration to the Holy OneI
Nor gold have I to give the Perfect SonI
To be with those wise kings a worshipperH
-
Not mine the joy that Heaven sent to themA
For ages since Time swung and locked his gatesJ
But I may kneel without the star still waitsJ
To guide me on to holy BethlehemA
