The Mushroom is the Elf of PlantsB
At Evening it is notC
At Morning in a Truffled HutD
It stop upon a SpotC
-
As if it tarried alwaysE
And yet its whole CareerF
Is shorter than a Snake's DelayG
And fleeter than a TareF
-
'Tis Vegetation's JugglerF
The Germ of AlibiH
Doth like a Bubble antedateC
And like a Bubble hieI
-
I feel as if the Grass was pleasedC
To have it intermitC
This surreptitious scionJ
Of Summer's circumspectC
-
Had Nature any supple FaceK
Or could she one contemnJ
Had Nature an ApostateC
That Mushroom it is HimL
