It Was Not Death, For I Stood Up, Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH FIJK LMNO PQCQ HRST

It was not death for I stood upA
And all the dead lie downB
It was not night for all the bellsC
Put out their tongues for noonD
-
It was not frost for on my fleshE
I felt siroccos crawlF
Nor fire for just my marble feetG
Could keep a chancel coolH
-
And yet it tasted like them allF
The figures I have seenI
Set orderly for burialJ
Reminded me of mineK
-
As if my life were shavenL
And fitted to a frameM
And could not breathe without a keyN
And 't was like midnight someO
-
When everything that ticked has stoppedP
And space stares all aroundQ
Or grisly frosts first autumn mornsC
Repeal the beating groundQ
-
But most like chaos stopless coolH
Without a chance or sparR
Or even a report of landS
To justify despairT
