If He were living-dare I ask-
And how if He be dead-
And so around the Words I went-
Of meeting them-afraid-
I hinted Changes-Lapse of Time-
The Surfaces of Years-
I touched with Caution-lest they crack-
And show me to my fears-
Reverted to adjoining Lives-
Adroitly turning out
Wherever I suspected Graves-
'Twas prudenter-I thought-
And He-I pushed-with sudden force-
In face of the Suspense-
“Was buried”-”Buried”! “He!”
My Life just holds the Trench-
