I met a King this afternoon | B |
He had not on a Crown indeed | C |
A little Palmleaf Hat was all | D |
And he was barefoot I'm afraid | E |
- | |
But sure I am he Ermine wore | F |
Beneath his faded Jacket's blue | G |
And sure I am the crest he bore | F |
Within that Jacket's pocket too | G |
- | |
For 'twas too stately for an Earl | H |
A Marquis would not go so grand | I |
'Twas possibly a Czar petite | J |
A Pope or something of that kind | K |
- | |
If I must tell you of a Horse | L |
My freckled Monarch held the rein | M |
Doubtless an estimable Beast | N |
But not at all disposed to run | O |
- | |
And such a wagon While I live | P |
Dare I presume to see | Q |
Another such a vehicle | R |
As then transported me | Q |
- | |
Two other ragged Princes | S |
His royal state partook | T |
Doubtless the first excursion | O |
These sovereigns ever took | T |
- | |
I question if the Royal Coach | U |
Round which the Footmen wait | V |
Has the significance on high | W |
Of this Barefoot Estate | V |
