Remembrance Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF AGAG HAHA IJIJ HKHK LMLN

Cold in the earth and the deep snow piled above theeA
Far far removed cold in the dreary graveB
Have I forgot my only Love to love theeA
Severed at last by Time's all severing waveB
-
Now when alone do my thoughts no longer hoverC
Over the mountains on that northern shoreD
Resting their wings where heath and fern leaves coverC
That noble heart for ever ever moreD
-
Cold in the earth and fifteen wild DecembersE
From those brown hills have melted into springF
Faithful indeed is the spirit that remembersE
After such years of change and sufferingF
-
Sweet Love of youth forgive if I forget theeA
While the world's tide is bearing me alongG
Sterner desires and other hopes beset meA
Hopes which obscure but cannot do thee wrongG
-
No later light has lightened up my heavenH
No second morn has ever shone for meA
All my life's bliss from thy dear life was givenH
All my life's bliss is in the grave with theeA
-
But when the days of golden dreams had perishedI
And even Despair was powerless to destroyJ
Then did I learn how existence could be cherishedI
Strengthened and fed without the aid of joyJ
-
Then did I check the tears of useless passionH
Weaned my young soul from yearning after thineK
Sternly denied its burning wish to hastenH
Down to that tomb already more than mineK
-
And even yet I dare not let it languishL
Dare not indulge in Memory's rapturous painM
Once drinking deep of that divinest anguishL
How could I seek the empty world againN
