Please For Me Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCC DEDFF GGHII JJJKK LLLMM NNNOO PQQRS TTTCC

Oh thy bright eyes must answer nowA
When Reason with a scornful browA
Is mocking at my overthrowB
Oh thy sweet tongue must plead for meC
And tell why I have chosen theeC
-
Stern Reason is to judgment comeD
Arrayed in all her forms of gloomE
Wilt thou my advocate be dumbD
No radiant angel speak and sayF
Why I did cast the world awayF
-
Why I have persevered to shunG
The common paths that others runG
And on a strange road journeyed onH
Heedless alike of wealth and powerI
Of glory's wreath and pleasure's flowerI
-
These once indeed seemed Beings DivineJ
And they perchance heard vows of mineJ
And saw my offerings on their shrineJ
But careless gifts are seldom prizedK
And mine were worthily despisedK
-
So with a ready heart I sworeL
To seek their altar stone no moreL
And gave my spirit to adoreL
Thee ever present phantom thingM
My slave my comrade and my kingM
-
A slave because I rule thee stillN
Incline thee to my changeful willN
And make thy influence good or illN
A comrade for by day and nightO
Thou art my intimate delightO
-
My darling pain that wounds and searsP
And wrings a blessing out from tearsQ
By deadening me to earthly caresQ
And yet a king though Prudence wellR
Have taught thy subject to rebelS
-
And am I wrong to worship whereT
Faith cannot doubt nor hope despairT
Since my own soul can grant my prayerT
Speak God of visions plead for meC
And tell why I have chosen theeC
