I See Around Me Tombstones Grey Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

I see around me tombstones greyA
Stretching their shadows far awayA
Beneath the turf my footsteps treadB
Lie low and lone the silent deadB
Beneath the turf beneath the mouldC
Forever dark forever coldC
And my eyes cannot hold the tearsD
That memory hoards from vanished yearsE
For Time and Death and Mortal painF
Give wounds that will not heal againG
Let me remember half the woeH
I've seen and heard and felt belowH
And Heaven itself so pure and blestI
Could never give my spirit restI
Sweet land of light thy children fairJ
Know nought akin to our despairJ
Nor have they felt nor can they tellK
What tenants haunt each mortal cellK
What gloomy guests we hold withinL
Torments and madness tears and sinL
Well may they live in ectasyE
Their long eternity of joyM
At least we would not bring them downN
With us to weep with us to groanO
No Earth would wish no other sphereP
To taste her cup of sufferings drearP
She turns from Heaven with a careless eyeQ
And only mourns that we must dieQ
Ah mother what shall comfort theeR
In all this boundless miseryR
To cheer our eager eyes a whileS
We see thee smile how fondly smileS
But who reads not through that tender glowH
Thy deep unutterable woeH
Indeed no dazzling land aboveT
Can cheat thee of thy children's loveT
We all in life's departing shineU
Our last dear longings blend with thineU
And struggle still and strive to traceE
With clouded gaze thy darling faceE
We would not leave our native homeV
For any world beyond the TombW
No rather on thy kindly breastI
Let us be laid in lasting restI
Or waken but to share with theeR
A mutual immortalityR
