Hope. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG FHFH IJIB

Hope Was but a timid friendA
She sat without the grated denB
Watching how my fate would tendA
Even as selfish hearted menB
-
She was cruel in her fearC
Through the bars one dreary dayD
I looked out to see her thereE
And she turned her face awayD
-
Like a false guard false watch keepingF
Still in strife she whispered peaceG
She would sing while I was weepingF
If I listened she would ceaseG
-
False she was and unrelentingF
When my last joys strewed the groundH
Even Sorrow saw repentingF
Those sad relics scattered roundH
-
Hope whose whisper would have givenI
Balm to all my frenzied painJ
Stretched her wings and soared to heavenI
Went and ne'er returned againB
