Sence fair Jessica hez left usA
Seems ez ef she hed bereft usA
When she went o' half o' livin'B
Fer we never knowed she'd drivenC
Into us so much contentD
Till fair Jessica hed wentD
Knowed a feller once thet criedE
When his yaller dog hed diedE
-
We hain't near ez bright an' chirkyF
An' the sun shines blue an' murkyF
Kind o' sadly an' disheartedE
Like ets sperret bed departedE
Just ez ef ets joy bed ceasedE
Sence fair Jessica 's gone EastE
Not but what ets always soberG
Sort o' weather in OctoberG
-
Then the posies too seems humanC
An' hez all quit o' their bloomin'C
An' the trees they show a pallorG
An' hey turned a heart sick yallerG
Sayin' No use livin' onC
Ef fair Jessica hez goneC
Folks thet knows sez this ez allH
Very common in the fallH
-
Truth ez I'm a feelin' sadlyF
Things ez goin' kind o' badlyF
Round my heart an' other vitalsA
Brings on poetry recitalsA
O' my woes 'most ev'ry dayE
Sence fair Jessica's awayE
Kind o' think thet I will haf terG
Smoke a leetle less hereafterG
-
But with fun aside you knowC
We're blamed sorry she must goC
An' we hope she'll think maybeF
'Z well o' us ez we o' sheF
