The Ballade Of The Automobile Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC ABABBCBC ABABBBBB D BBBB

When our yacht sails seaward on steady keelA
And the wind is moist with breath of brineB
And our laughter tells of our perfect wealA
We may carol the praises of ruby wineB
But if automobiling my woes combineB
And fuel gives out in my road machineC
And it's sixteen miles to that home of mineB
Then ho for a gallon of gasolineC
-
When our coach rides smoothly on iron shod wheelA
With a deft touch guiding each taut drawn lineB
And the inn ahead holds a royal mealA
We may carol the praises of ruby wineB
But when on some long and steep inclineB
In a manner entirely unforeseenC
The motor stops with a last sad whineB
Then ho for a gallon of gasolineC
-
When the air is crisp and the brooks congealA
And our sleigh glides on with a speed divineB
While the gay bells echo with peal on pealA
We may carol the praises of ruby wineB
But when with perverseness most condignB
In the same harsh snowstorm cold and keenB
My auto stops at the six mile signB
Then ho for a gallon of gasolineB
-
ENVOYD
-
When yacht or Coach Club fellows dineB
We may carol the praises of ruby wineB
But when Automobile Clubmen conveneB
Then ho for a gallon of gasolineB
