Night In The City Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB ADED FGHG

The sluggish clouds hang low upon the townA
And from yon lamp in chilled and sodden raysB
The feeble light gropes through the heavy mistC
And dies extinguished in the stagnant mazeB
-
From moisty eaves the drops fall slowly downA
To strike with leaden sound the walk belowD
And in dark murky pools upon the streetE
The water stands as lacking life to flowD
-
With hopeless brain oppressed and sad at heartF
Toil's careworn slave turns out his flickering lightG
And treads in dreams his dulling round againH
Where weary day succeeds to dismal nightG
