A Satisfactory Reform Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCBADAD EFGFHIJI KLHLHMNN NFHFEBOB EBOBAJNJA merry burgomaster | A |
In a burgh upon the Rhine | B |
Said Our burghers all are | C |
Far too fond of drinking wine | B |
So the merry burgomaster | A |
When the burgomasters met | D |
Bade them look into the matter | A |
Ere the thing went farther yet | D |
- | |
And the merry burgomasters | E |
Did decide the only way | F |
To alleviate the evil | G |
Without worry or delay | F |
Would be just to call a meeting | H |
Of the burghers great and small | I |
And then open every wine cask | J |
And proceed to drink it all | I |
- | |
For they said when we have swallowed | K |
Every drop that's in the land | L |
There can be no more of drinking | H |
It is plain to understand | L |
So they called a monster meeting | H |
And the burghers small and great | M |
Drank and drank until they were too | N |
Tipsy to perambulate | N |
- | |
But there still was wine in plenty | N |
So in sooth the only way | F |
Was to call another meeting | H |
So they called it for next day | F |
Thus from day to day the burghers | E |
Met and swallowed seas of wine | B |
And they vowed the reformation | O |
Was a mission quite divine | B |
- | |
And today the worthy burghers | E |
In that burgh upon the Rhine | B |
Still continue their great mission | O |
And still swallow seas of wine | B |
And they vow they will not falter | A |
In their great reforming task | J |
Till the last drop has been emptied | N |
From the very last wine cask | J |
