Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK| Whene'er I feed the barnyard folk | A |
| My gentle soul is vexed | B |
| My sensibilities are torn | C |
| And I am sore perplexed | B |
| - | |
| The rooster so politely stands | D |
| While waiting for his food | E |
| But when I feed him what a change | F |
| He then is rough and rude | E |
| - | |
| He crowds his gentle wives aside | G |
| Or pecks them on the head | H |
| Sometimes I think it would be best | I |
| If he were never fed | H |
| - | |
| And so I often stand for hours | J |
| Deciding which is right | K |
| To impolitely have enough | L |
| Or starve and be polite | K |
