Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE AFDFGEGE EHIHJECE EKAKLHHEIn our dainty little kitchen | A |
Where my aproned wife is queen | B |
Over all the tin pan people | C |
In a realm exceeding clean | B |
Oft I like to loiter watching | D |
While she mixes things for tea | E |
And she tasks me slyly smiling | D |
Now just guess what this will be | E |
- | |
Hidden in a big blue apron | A |
Her dimpled arms laid bare | F |
And the love smiles coyly mingling | D |
With a housewife's frown of care | F |
See her beat a golden batter | G |
Pausing but to ask of me | E |
As she adds a bit of butter | G |
Now just guess what this will be | E |
- | |
Then I bravely do my duty | E |
Guess it pudding cake or pie | H |
Dumplings waffles bread or muffins | I |
But no matter what I try | H |
This provoking witch just answers | J |
Never mind just wait and see | E |
But I think you should be able | C |
Dear to guess what this will be | E |
- | |
Little fraud she never tells me | E |
Until 'tis baked and browned | K |
And I think I know the reason | A |
For her secrecy profound | K |
She herself with all her fine airs | L |
And her books on cookery | H |
Could not answer should I ask her | H |
Dearest what will that mess be | E |
