Reluctant yearning with a faithless mind | B |
I sought once more a long neglected spot | C |
A wooded upland bordered by the sea | D |
Whose tides were swirling up the reedy sands | E |
Or floating noiseless in the yellow marsh | F |
My way was wild The winds awaking smote | C |
My face but as I passed a ruined wall | G |
Brambles and vines and waving blossoms dashed | C |
A frolic welcome like a summer rain | H |
Shouldering the hills against the murky east | C |
Stood stalwart oaks and in the mossy sod | C |
Below the trembling birches whispered me | D |
Not here I reached the silence loving pines | I |
And lingered The mists swept from the wooded hills | J |
And rolling seaward hid the anchored ships | K |
So happy dreaming an old dream again | L |
Of keeping tryst in secret on the knoll | M |
I wandered on listening in dreamy maze | N |
To sounds I thought familiar the approach | O |
Of well known footsteps in the leafy path | P |
A murmuring voice calling me by name | Q |
Through the pine shafts the sunless light of dawn | R |
Stole Day was come My dream would be fulfilled | C |
Above the hills the sky began to blaze | N |
And ushering morn the west flushed rosy red | C |

Scattered cloud banners crimson gray and white | C |
There was my shadow in the leafy path | P |
Alone none was to keep the tryst with me | D |
No voice no step among the hills I heard | C |
The joyous swallows from their nestlings flew | S |
Mad in the light with song Far out at sea | D |
The white sails fluttered in the eager breeze | T |
But Day was silent holding tryst with me | D |
My pilgrimage rewarded faith restored | C |
