The Autumn Sheaf Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ

Still I remember only autumn daysA
When golden leaves were floating in the airB
And reddening oaks stood sombre in the hazeA
Till sunset struck them with its redder glareB
-
And faded leaving me by wood and fieldC
In fragrant dew and fragrant velvet mouldD
To wait among the shades of night concealedC
And learn that story which but once is toldD
-
Though many seasons of the falling leavesE
I watched my failing hopes and watched their fallF
In memory they are gathered now like sheavesE
So withered that a touch would scatter allF
-
Dead leaves and dust more dead to fall apartG
Leaves spreading once in arches over meH
And dust enclosing once a loving heartG
Still I am happy with youth's mysteryH
-
It cannot be unbound my autumn sheafI
So let it stand the ruin of my pastJ
Returning autumn brings the old beliefI
Its mystery all its own and it will lastJ
