| The swallows circle through the darkling mist | B |
| The robins breast the grass and they divide | C |
| This solitude with me The rippling sea | D |
| And sunset clouds the sea gulls' flashing flight | E |
| From looming isles beyond I watch them now | F |
| With a new sense Where are the swallows' young | G |
| And where the robins' nests Year after year | H |
| They hover round this ancient house and I | I |
| Within as heedless saw the long years pass | J |
| Nor ever dreamed a day like this might come | K |
| A day when mourners go about the street | L |
| For one who always loved his fellow men | M |
| The windflower trembles in the woods the sod | N |
| Is full of violets the orchards rain | O |
| Their scented blossoms May unfolds its leaves | P |
| Nature's eternal mystery to renew | Q |
| Must man be less than leaf or flower and end | R |
| If I go hence when this departed soul | S |
| Has left no human tie to bind me now | F |
| When spring unfolds and I recall his past | T |
| Will their remembrance lead me here again | M |
| To teach me that his spirit comes to show | U |
| That Nature is eternal for man's sake | V |
