Sonnets From The Portuguese Xxvi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBACDEDEDI lived with visions for my company | A |
Instead of men and women years ago | B |
And found them gentle mates nor thought to know | B |
A sweeter music than they played to me | A |
But soon their trailing purple was not free | A |
Of this world's dust their lutes did silent grow | B |
And I myself grew faint and blind below | B |
Their vanishing eyes Then thou didst come to be | A |
Belov d what they seemed Their shining fronts | C |
Their songs their splendours better yet the same | D |
As river water hallowed into fonts | E |
Met in thee and from out thee overcame | D |
My soul with satisfaction of all wants | E |
Because God's gifts put man's best dreams to shame | D |
