For multitude and thirst of sweetnesses | B |
Whereat rejoicing I desired the art | A |
Of the Greek whistler who to wharf and mart | A |
Could lure those insect swarms from orange trees | B |
That I might hive with me such thoughts and please | B |
My soul so always foolish counterpart | A |
Of a weak man's vain wishes While I spoke | C |
The thought I called a flower grew nettle rough | D |
The thoughts called bees stung me to festering | E |
Oh entertain cried Reason as she woke | C |
Your best and gladdest thoughts but long enough | D |
And they will all prove sad enough to sting | E |
