A Woman's Shortcomings Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EDEDFDFD GGGGHDHD IEIJKDAD ALALADAD

She has laughed as softly as if she sighedA
She has counted six and overB
Of a purse well filled and a heart well triedA
Oh each a worthy loverB
They quot give her time quot for her soul must slipC
Where the world has set the groovingD
She will lie to none with her fair red lipC
But love seeks truer lovingD
-
She trembles her fan in a sweetness dumbE
As her thoughts were beyond recallingD
With a glance for one and a glance for someE
From her eyelids rising and fallingD
Speaks common words with a blushful airF
Hears bold words unreprovingD
But her silence says what she never will swearF
And love seeks better lovingD
-
Go lady lean to the night guitarG
And drop a smile to the bringerG
Then smile as sweetly when he is farG
At the voice of an in door singerG
Bask tenderly beneath tender eyesH
Glance lightly on their removingD
And join new vows to old perjuriesH
But dare not call it lovingD
-
Unless you can think when the song is doneI
No other is soft in the rhythmE
Unless you can feel when left by OneI
That all men else go with himJ
Unless you can know when unpraised by his breathK
That your beauty itself wants provingD
Unless you can swear quot For life for death quotA
Oh fear to call it lovingD
-
Unless you can muse in a crowd all dayA
On the absent face that fixed youL
Unless you can love as the angels mayA
With the breadth of heaven betwixt youL
Unless you can dream that his faith is fastA
Through behoving and unbehovingD
Unless you can die when the dream is pastA
Oh never call it lovingD
