The Prinkin' Leddie Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAB BBCC BBAA DDEF AADD AAAA BBBB

The Hielan' lassies are a' for spinnin'A
The Lowlan' lassies for prinkin' and pinnin'A
My daddie w'u'd chide me an' so w'u'd my minnieA
If I s'u'd bring hame sic a prinkin' leddieB
-
Now haud your tongue ye haverin' cowardB
For whilst I'm young I'll go flounced an' floweredB
In lutestring striped like the strings o' a fiddleC
Wi' gowden girdles aboot my middleC
-
In your Hielan' glen where the rain pours steadyB
Ye'll be gay an' glad for a prinkin' leddieB
Where the rocks are all bare an' the turf is all soddenA
An' lassies gae sad in their homespun an' hoddenA
-
My silks are stiff wi' patterns o' sillerD
I've an ermine hood like the hat o' a millerD
I've chains o' coral like rowan berriesE
An' a cramoisie mantle that cam' frae ParisF
-
Ye'll be glad for the glint o' its scarlet linin'A
When the larks are up an' the sun is shinin'A
When the winds are up an' ower the heatherD
Your heart'll be gay wi' my gowden featherD
-
When the skies are low an' the earth is frozenA
Ye'll be gay an' glad for the leddie ye've chosenA
When ower the snow I go prinkin' an' prancin'A
In my wee red slippers were made for dancin'A
-
It's better a leddie like Solomon's lilyB
Than one that'll run like a Hielan' gillieB
A linkin' it ower the leas my laddieB
In a raggedy kilt an' a belted pladdieB
