Here's a wonderful thingA
A humming bird's wingA
In hammered goldB
And store well chosenC
Of snowflakes frozenC
In crystal coldB
-
Black onyx cherriesD
And mistletoe berriesD
Of chrysopraseD
Jade buds tight shutE
All carven and cutE
In intricate waysD
-
Here if you pleaseD
Are little gilt beesD
In amber dropsD
Which look like honeyF
Translucent and sunnyF
From clover topsD
-
Here's an elfin girlG
Of mother of pearlG
And moonshine madeH
With tortise shell hairI
Both dusky and fairI
In its light and shadeH
-
Here's lacquer laid thinJ
Like a scarlet skinJ
On an ivory fruitK
And a filigree frostL
Of frail notes lostL
From a fairy luteK
-
Here's a turquoise chainM
Of sun shower rainM
To wear if you wishN
And glittering greenO
With aquamarineO
A silvery fishN
-
Here are pearls all strungP
On a thread amongP
Pretty pink shellsD
And bubbles blownQ
From the opal stoneQ
Which ring like bellsD
-
Touch them and take themR
But do not break themR
Beneath your handS
They will wither like foamT
If you carry them homeT
Out of fairy lanndS
-
O they never can lastS
Though you hide them fastS
From moth and from rustS
In your monstrous dayS
They will crumble awayS
Into quicksilver dustS
