The old moon is tarnishedA
With smoke of the floodB
The dead leaves are varnishedA
With colour like bloodB
-
A treacherous smilerC
With teeth white as milkD
A savage beguilerC
In sheathings of silkD
-
The sea creeps to pillageE
She leaps on her preyC
A child of the villageF
Was murdered todayC
-
She came up to meet himG
In a smooth golden cloakH
She choked him and beat himG
to death for a jokeH
-
Her bright locks were tangledI
She shouted for joyJ
With one hand she strangledI
A strong little boyJ
-
Now in silence she lingersK
Beside him all nightL
To wash her long fingersK
In silvery lightL
