Verses Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDDEEFFGGHIFFJJ

Sent by Lord Melcombe to Dr Young Not Long Before His Lordship's DeathA
-
-
Kind companion of my youthB
Lov'd for genius worth and truthB
Take what friendship can impartC
Tribute of a feeling heartC
Take the muse's latest sparkD
Ere we drop into the darkD
He who parts and virtue gaveE
Bad thee look beyond the graveE
Genius soars and virtue guidesF
Above the love of God presidesF
There's a gulf 'twixt us and GodG
Let the gloomy path be trodG
Why stand shivering on the shoreH
Why not boldly venture o'erI
Where unerring virtue guidesF
Let us have the winds and tidesF
Safe through seas of doubts and fearsJ
Rides the bark which virtue steersJ
