Preparatory Meditations - First Series: 1 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD EDFDGG HIJKAA

What love is this of Thine that cannot beA
In Thine infinity O Lord confinedB
Unless it in Thy very person seeA
Infinity and finity conjoinedC
What hath Thy godhead as not satisfiedD
Married our manhood making it its brideD
-
Oh matchless love Filling heaven to the brimE
O'errunning it all running o'er besideD
This world Nay overflowing hell whereinF
For Thine elect there rose a mighty tideD
That there our veins might through Thy person bleedG
To quench those flames that else would on us feedG
-
Oh that Thy love might overflow my heartH
To fire the same with love for love I wouldI
But oh my straitened breast my lifeless sparkJ
My fireless flame What chilly love and coldK
In measure small In manner chilly SeeA
Lord blow the coal Thy love enflame in meA
